As I flipped through the pages, I felt a mixture of anticipation and hesitation. It's a fusion of two powerful generations, Millennials (born between the early 1980s and early 2000s) and Generation Z (born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s). The MZ generation encompasses a wide age range, spanning from teenagers to early 40s. They're a tech-savvy bunch, well-versed in the world of information technology and higher education.



Characteristics of the MZ Generation

Now, let's delve into what sets the MZ generation apart. First and foremost, they are avid seekers of various encounters. Curiosity drives them, and they are open to making friends with just about anyone, especially in the vast online realm. Secondly, they possess a remarkable ability to achieve their goals through peaceful rallies and national petitions, steering away from violence. Thirdly, they truly enjoy immersing themselves in the virtual realms of entertainment.



Experiences & Own Satisfaction

But that's not all! The MZ generation has a distinct inclination towards subscribing and sharing services rather than purchasing items. They value experiences and prioritize their own satisfaction over the collective "we" mindset that previous generations held. It's no surprise that they don't hold back when it comes to investing in things they genuinely prefer. This influential group dominates the distribution market through social media platforms, acting as the driving force behind consumer trends.



MZ Generation, Echoist

Did you know that the MZ generation is also known as Echoists? This psychological term serves as a counterbalance to the narcissistic tendencies of some individuals. Echoists have strict personal standards and an aversion to causing trouble for others. In fact, they exhibit a unique inclination to avoid harm both to themselves and those around them.



Why did the MZ generation become diligent?

Sociologists offer an intriguing analysis of this phenomenon. The MZ generation, faced with challenges such as the "Corona Blue," unemployment, and housing issues, often feels a sense of helplessness. In their quest to overcome these obstacles and find fulfillment, they have embraced small, uplifting habits that add zest to their daily lives. This way of life, marked by regular habits like the Miracle Morning routine, gratitude journaling, and daily exercise certifications, is commonly referred to as "ritual life" or "God-Saeng" (a combination of "God" and "Life"). Through these practices, they prioritize self-care and personal growth. It's important to note that not every individual within the MZ generation conforms to a single standard, but these characteristics have indeed flourished in this era.



I'm not from the MZ generation

Now, I must confess that I'm slightly older, belonging to the mid-40s age bracket. Yet, interestingly, even before and after the arrival of COVID-19, I've noticed many individuals in their 40s, 50s, and 60s embracing self-care and self-realization. The pandemic has led everyone to contemplate life, mortality, solitude, and society. These individuals, although not part of the MZ generation, wake up early in the morning, join online book clubs, express themselves through blogging, and offer encouragement to one another. The responsibilities of marriage and raising children may have previously hindered their ability to focus on their true selves. However, now they seize the opportunity to carve their own narratives, confronting their past, cherishing the present, and dreaming of a brighter future. Their motivations have shifted from family and work to personal fulfillment, and they eagerly share their journey on social media. It's wonderful to witness each individual crafting their unique history, and it's truly inspiring to hear their stories and find solidarity within them. We may not be part of the MZ generation, but we're all united in our pursuit of meaning in the present.
